"Traditional Mardi Gras Run"
The traditional Cajun Mardi Gras dates farther back in time than the
New Orleans Mardi Gras. Hundreds of years ago in France, the poor
farmers did not have much to eat in the winter. When all the food was
gone, the aristocrats would allow them to beg from house to house. As
years passed, the begging day turned into a holiday.
During this time of celebration, the farmers would mock the Kings,
Queens, Bishops and Teachers by dressing like them, but in rags and
tattered clothing. When the French Acadians, or Cajuns, settled in
Louisiana more than two hundred years ago, they brought this old custom
with them.
Le Krewe Du Le Originales Et Les Enfant and The Duck Festival
Association started the Mardi Gras Run in February 2007 and has been an
annually event every since.
